SOLAR BARRIERS

2016

Solar panels are typically found on rooftops or in “farms,” covering acres of land. As great as solar power is for fulfilling renewable energy goals, it’s not always practical to sacrifice acres or aesthetics to capture valuable molecules of solar energy with a perfectly tilted, flat panel. The Ray is actively interested in technologies that combine solar panels with another practical purpose: noise-cancelling highway barriers.

ALONG THE RAY

The Ray is currently exploring the possibility of developing a pilot solar barrier project along I-85 combining the benefits of solar energy generation with cancelling highway noise. The potential project would be an opportunity to explore the boundaries of adding a new functionality to solar generation—all constructed with emerging materials.

FUTURE INNOVATION

As we explore and prototype these solar barriers, The Ray will be collecting and reporting back on the data, helping fuel further innovation and development.
